The company has determined that it would cost too much to renovate the aging facility; no timeframe has been set for the dismantling work. At a press conference held at the Miyazaki Prefectural Office, company president Hirofumi Matsunaga stated, \u201cWe have confirmed that renovation fees would outstrip sales from any plan that made use of the Dome.\u201d The facility will be scrapped once a plan for how to use the 84,600 square meter site has been selected. When the dome opened in 1993, it was the world\u2019s largest indoor swimming facility, but it struggled to attract visitors and closed in 2007.
