The governor goes on to explain that the beloved mascot\u2019s round red cheeks are a symbol of Kumamoto\u2019s happiness. He ends the video with a plea to help find Kumamon\u2019s cheeks!\u00a0Since Kumamon\u2019s creation in 2010, the cute mascot has become popular across Japan, especially after winning a nationwide mascot contest, bringing tourism and merchandising revenue to Kumamoto Prefecture. The video appears on a website titled \u201c\u304f\u307e\u3082\u3093\u306e\u306f\u3063\u307a\u3092\u63a2\u3057\u3066\u3044\u307e\u3059\u201d (Searching for Kumamon\u2019s cheeks) but so far there\u2019s no further hint at what\u2019s to follow.
