The fresh “flavors of Kyushu”, which are delivered on daily flights between Fukuoka and Hong Kong, are garnering attention in Hong Kong. The new service was the brainchild of Hong Kong-based Fukusho Trading (Kenji Fujima, President), a wholesale supplier of fresh Fukuoka produce to high-end restaurants in Hong Kong. Customers can order goods from an online shop operated by Aeon Credit Service’s Hong Kong subsidiary, and orders arrive in as few as three days. Consumers can purchase sushi prepared in Hong Kong with cero mackerel and red sea bream from the Genkai Sea. Two-person servings of sushi start from HK$780 (¥9300), which is 30 – 40% less than the same sushi offered at Hong Kong’s top-tier restaurants, and according to Fujima, customers have raved it “tastes much better than sushi made from frozen fish”. As for fresh vegetables, the shop offers mizuna, spinach, tomatoes and other produce that typically does not last long. It will also offer an 8-item fruit and vegetable set including Fukuoka’s premier Amaou strawberries for HK$430. “Customers told me ‘Hong Kong supermarkets are full of vegetables, but they aren’t fresh’, so I decided to begin the home delivery of healthy, safe and fresh Fukuoka-made produce. I plan to boost publicity and increase the number of items on offer,” stated Fujima.
