Santa Claus has come to town early this year, in the form of a lighthouse at Hakata Port! It took the staff at the Fukuoka Coast Guard four days to complete the annual decorations, transforming the lighthouse into Santa for the festive season. The tradition is in its eighth year &#8211; it began in 2005 to create holiday cheer for citizens affected by the Fukuoka earthquake. Staff warn boat drivers and captains of ships not to become distracted by the lighthouse, however cute it may be &#8211; safety first! A sign next to the lighthouse displays the text \u201cKEEP WATCH\u201d to further reinforce this message.
