Hiroshi Ogawa announced that two prefecture natives who won medals at the recent London Olympics will receive the prefecture sports award. They are Satomi Suzuki, a swimmer who won one silver and two bronze medals, and Yoshie Takeshita, who won a bronze medal for volleyball. The award is given to amateur athletes from the prefecture who have distinguished themselves in sports. It has also been given to past Olympians Ryoko Tani (judo) and Yukiko Ueno (softball). Suzuki\u2019s hometown of Onga Town will also create a new municipality sports award, and she will be the first recipient.
