However, if you have the time to spare, you should take a whole week to enjoy this course at a more leisurely pace. You won\u2019t regret taking extra time to relax on the islands. Have a great trip!!<\/p>\n<p>\u25b7 <a href=\"#a\">The suggested trip itinerary is at the bottom of the page.<\/a><br \/>\n\u25b7 <a href=\"#b\">List of Places Visited<\/a><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Koshikijima Islands<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/goo.gl\/maps\/EKBu5XD3BA1v4cAS8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Koshikijima Islands: Located 45km west of Kagoshima <\/a><br \/>\nThe island chain consists of three major inhabited islands: Kamikoshiki, Nakakoshiki, Shimokoshiki, and several small uninhabited islands. Last August, the Koshiki Ohashi Bridge (1,533m) linking Shimokoshiki and Nakakoshiki opened, effectively connecting all of the islands and making this little island chain a great destination for driving and touring. Just over an hour on the bullet train from Hakata Station will put you at Sendai Station, the second to last stop on the Kyushu Shinkansen Line\u2019s southern end. If you call in advance, staff from the rental car company will pick you up at the port. If you opt for a rental car, you can have lunch at a popular <em>sushi<\/em> restaurant on the island. There is a flourishing aquaculture industry on the islands with farms for fish like bluefin tuna and flounder. The lean <em>akami<\/em> cuts and the fatty <em>toro<\/em> cuts from the tuna make for great <em>sashimi<\/em> and <em>sushi<\/em>. Torinosu Overlook<\/strong><br \/>\nLocated just off the Koshiki Ohashi Bridge&#8217;s southern end, this overlook provides the dazzling bridge\u2019s best view. Located right on the beach and just a 10-minute walk from Sato Port, the inn has rooms with fully-equipped kitchenettes, so you can enjoy a relaxing condo-like experience. (And how can you beat fresh tofu for breakfast?) The neighborhood around Yamashita Shoten is also great for a stroll. The Kanoko sightseeing boat is equipped with two high-speed diesel engines with a maximum output of 800 horsepower, measures 23 m in length, and has a capacity of 28 passengers. On this breathtaking one-hour tour, you will see the roughly 80 million-year-old strata that formed the massive and unusual rock formations, including Koshiki Daimyojin, which is revered as a Shinto deity. After driving for about 30 minutes, you will arrive at Iriki Fumoto Buke Yashikigun, one of the three major <em>samurai<\/em> residences in Kagoshima Prefecture.<br \/>\n<strong>TIP:<\/strong> As you head further into the countryside, restaurants will be far and few between, so you should buy lunch somewhere between Sendai Station and here.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Iriki Fumoto Buke Yashikigun<\/strong><br \/>\nThis group of <em>samurai<\/em> residences was built around Kiyoshiki Castle, which was considered the best mountain castle of the Satsuma Domain. Some well-preserved sections of the stone walls remain. The current townscape was built in the Edo period, and most of the sites of the old residences are now home to modern private houses. Located in a bucolic mountain area, the Kedoin Distillery started production in 2007. It is the only <em>shochu<\/em> distillery in Japan that ferments its mash and distills its liquor in wooden barrels, and stores the end product in a cave. Kedoin\u2019s flagship brand made with these unique processes is Nokaido. The distillery\u2019s predecessor is a <em>shochu<\/em> distillery founded on Koshikijima in 1902 and produced <em>shochu<\/em> under the brand name of Aoshio. After lunch, why not enjoy a relaxing cycle ride around Lake Imuta, a volcanic caldera lake with a circumference of about 3.3km. To the northwest of the lake, there is a marshland registered under the Ramsar Convention with several small islands composed of peat deposits scattered about.
