Fukuoka is a city where younger generations and international visitors mingle, and new shops and services continue to emerge. Royal Hotel, with a history spanning more than 90 years, has chosen this changing city as the setting for its latest venture. Fukuoka Now attended a pre-opening event to take a first look inside.<\/p>\n

On September 1, 2026, BOUNCEE by RIHGA Fukuoka Hakata will open in Gionmachi, Hakata Ward.<\/p>\n

\"BOUNCEE<\/p>\n

The concept behind the new brand is “HOTEL BAR,” and that idea is apparent on the second floor, where Hotaru & Bar occupies a prominent corner of the hotel. During our visit, the large windows gave us a wide view over the people and traffic moving through Gionmachi. It is a space designed to change with the neighborhood outside, from morning through afternoon and into the evening.<\/p>\n

Hotaru & Bar is operated by O.B.U. Company, a Fukuoka-based restaurant group. It brings together the food and service developed through the company’s Hakata Hotaru restaurants with the hotel bar expertise of RIHGA Royal Hotels.<\/p>\n

The menu includes dishes with a distinctly Fukuoka and Kyushu flavor, including goma saba, mizutaki, and Kyushu wagyu beef. Drinks range from original cocktails made with Kyushu sake and authentic shochu to mocktails for those who prefer not to drink alcohol. The emphasis is on pairing Japanese food with drinks, making the bar more than simply somewhere to stop for a nightcap.<\/p>\n

The location is another important part of the concept. The hotel is just steps from Kushida Shrine-mae Subway Station and about a 10-minute walk from Hakata Station, opposite Canal East, which is due to reopen soon following renovation. Kushida Shrine and Hakata Old Town are nearby, while Nakasu is a short walk away, with Tenjin beyond.<\/p>\n

That makes the bar easy to imagine using even without staying overnight. Meet there before heading out to the area’s yatai and restaurants, or stop in after dinner for another drink. From what we saw at the pre-opening event, Hotaru & Bar feels intended to function as part of the neighborhood as much as part of the hotel.<\/p>\n

The 11-story hotel has 117 guest rooms, all with windows and interiors unified by lighting and design elements inspired by a bar. The second floor also features a large public bath, sauna, and cold-water bath. The property is compact, but the rooms and shared facilities are designed to provide the essentials for a comfortable stay in central Hakata.<\/p>\n

With BOUNCEE by RIHGA, Gionmachi gains another place not only to stay, but to meet, eat, drink, and head out into Hakata at night.<\/p>\n
