They are adding a new and original dish to their menu, the <em>Jiyojiru Nabe<\/em>, and Fukuoka Now was invited to take it for a test taste.<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-66200\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/fukuoka-now.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/mentaiju-new-menu-sep-2015-002-e1443671231476.jpg?resize=640%2C480\" alt=\"mentaiju new menu sep 2015 002\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This <em>nabe<\/em> (hot pot) dish uses a sweet Kyushu-style <em>shoyu<\/em> (soy sauce) mixed with fish stock (made from flying fish, kelp, <em>mentaiko<\/em> and <em>shiitake<\/em> mushrooms) for its base. Added to this are <em>tofu<\/em>, beef, green and Welsh onions, and dumplings made with <em>mentaiko<\/em> (spicy pollock roe) and rice. All of these are placed in a ceramic pot and heated at your table on a hot plate.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_66283\" style=\"width: 650px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-66283\" class=\"wp-image-66283 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/fukuoka-now.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/mentaiju-new-menu-sep-2015-0031-e1443766017218.jpg?resize=640%2C480\" alt=\"mentaiju new menu sep 2015 003\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-66283\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Note: Photo shows 2-person serving. Consult with staff.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>They recommend that your inaugural sip be of the soup only, and with good reason; this way you fully appreciate the delicate sweetness of the soup before swooping upon the melt-in the-mouth beef, the tender leeks and the spicy, chewy dumplings.<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-66287\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/fukuoka-now.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/mentaiju-new-menu-sep-2015-0071-e1443766075999.jpg?resize=640%2C480\" alt=\"mentaiju new menu sep 2015 007\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Patrons are encouraged to experiment with the three flavourings provided: ginger, garlic and a spicy <em>mentaiko<\/em> paste. Those who like a delicate dish should opt for the ginger, but lovers of a smoky kick will enjoy the garlic. If, however, you are feeling adventurous, you should try the <em>mentaiko<\/em> paste: this red paste uses pollock roe, chilli and <em>yuzu<\/em>, and it will certainly clear your head!<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-66285\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/fukuoka-now.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/mentaiju-new-menu-sep-2015-0051-e1443766180527.jpg?resize=640%2C480\" alt=\"mentaiju new menu sep 2015 005\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Jiyojiru Nabe<\/em> roughly translates as \u201cNutrition Soup Hot Pot\u201d, and it definitely feels healthy. The light soup is flavourful, yet doesn\u2019t count on fatty foods for its moreish quality; it just relies on quality ingredients. You can order either a two person or a one person pot (we ordered a two person pot), which works out at \u00a51,980 per person either way.<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-66289\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/fukuoka-now.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/mentaiju-new-menu-sep-2015-0091-e1443766120345.jpg?resize=640%2C480\" alt=\"mentaiju new menu sep 2015 009\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>An attentive server is on hand to offer assistance in cooking and serving your <em>Jiyojiru Nabe<\/em>.
