Nagasaki-based singer Pirolina has released a new song singing the praises of eating whale meat. In the wake of the international Court of Justice’s ruling that Japan’s research whaling is illegal, Pirolina wrote a song called “Kujira-ra-ra” to generate understanding for Japan’s whaling tradition. Pirolina, real name Hiroko Hino, is the daughter of a whale meat wholesaler and serves as the spokeswoman for the company’s online store. This is her fourth song about whales. “It is important for people from different countries to recognize each others’ culinary cultures,” says Hino, who is considering translating her latest song into English.
