The uniqueness of the project is its matching system. The ShimaShima Project has learnt that many vegetables in Itoshima are abundantly produced, however some are malformed and thrown away before going to the market. This contrasts against the many people in Fukushima, especially mothers and pregnant women, who are in need of a safe and healthy diet and are eager to receive vegetables from Kyushu.

ShimaShima gets hold of seasonal vegetables from farmers in Itoshima – in return helping them to harvest. Next, they sort and pack the vegetables and send them to Fukushima. Those receiving the vegetables pay only for courier costs. Currently, the entire ShimaShima operation is run by a small team of 3 core members, and 4 volunteers, however the group wishes to expand in 2013 and needs more volunteers. They also seek donations in order to make the project sustainable in the long term.

DONATIONS
If you wish to donate money to the ShimaShima Project, the account details are as follows: Fukuoka Bank, Maebaru Branch.
