Finnair, one of the oldest airlines in the world (operating since 1923) is now flying three times a week between Fukuoka and Helsinki, making it the only direct, non-stop flight to Europe from Fukuoka. And since Fukuoka is one of Western Japan\u2019s most important commercial cities with excellent transport links to Kyushu\u2019s other prefectures, Finnair expects 14,000 travellers to use this new route within the first five months.<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.fukuoka-now.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/finnair-first-flight-may-2016-002.jpg?resize=640%2C427\" alt=\"finnair first flight may 2016 002\" width=\"640\" height=\"427\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-86851\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.fukuoka-now.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/finnair-first-flight-may-2016-002.jpg?w=640&amp;ssl=1 640w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.fukuoka-now.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/finnair-first-flight-may-2016-002.jpg?resize=300%2C200&amp;ssl=1 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Fukuoka departures are on Wed., Fri. and Sun. at 9:30, arriving in Helsinki at 13:55, and return flights leave Finland on Tue., Thu. and Sat. at 16:30, arriving in Fukuoka at 8:00 the next day. The model used is the Airbus A330-300, with 218 seats in economy and 45 in business class.<\/p>\n<p>At least one third of the cabin crew is Japanese, and all the signage has Japanese translations, so Japanese passengers will not be inconvenienced. Finnair already have flights between Helsinki and Tokyo, Osaka and Nagoya, and they offer some of the fastest services to Europe from Japan. And once you\u2019ve arrived in Helsinki, Finnair offers sixty connections to other destinations, making it an ideal hub airport. The airport was designed to facilitate quick and easy transfers, and is actually walkable \u2013 unlike some other huge hub airports.
