The third Tour de Arita classic car meeting was held over two days on Sat. 12th and Sun. 13th of November. The event is growing in popularity and this year 52 vehicles took part, with some enthusiasts driving down from as far away as Tokyo to participate. Indeed, one particularly keen entrant drove all that way down on the Saturday in a draughty 660cc-engined Caterham 160, joined the second day of the event and set off back to Tokyo as soon as the day was over, even though rain was forecast\u2026<\/p>\n

Both days featured tests of map reading over predetermined courses with check points along the way. Each stage was a timed challenge with penalty points accumulated for arriving too early or too late with hidden marshals checking set speeds using radar along the route.<\/p>\n

Entrants enjoyed a lavish party held in an old ceramic factory on the Saturday night with champagne and live music. Trophy plates of Arita porcelain were awarded for the best timekeepers and other categories. All-in-all a thoroughly enjoyable two days for participants and spectators. The assembled cars could be seen at the Arita Porcelain Park or parading through the town across the weekend.<\/p>\n
