With special seasonal illuminations, Fukuoka Tower (234 m) has become a centerpiece of Fukuoka’s landscape. The landmark has become very popular with photographers, amateur and professional alike. For the summer season (until July 7), images of the Milky Way will appear on the exterior walls of the tower. Watch carefully and catch the twinkling stars of the Summer Triangle (Deneb, Vega, and Altair, or Orihime and Hikoboshi in Japanese mythology). During the same period, couples who are in long-distance relationships can enter the tower for a discounted price (¥1,000 per couple, provide proof of address). Check the website for more Tanabata-themed events.
