Involvement of Fifteen Ashikagas in Wars and Arts Exhibition

START: Jul 13, 2019 END: Sep 1, 2019

The Ashikaga shogunate (1336–1573), also known as the Muromachi shogunate, was founded and led by the Ashikaga family in Kyoto. In the approximately 240 years of their reign, the Muromachi government and culture flourished, as evidenced by the careful selection of 134 artifacts in the exhibition. The display includes paintings, primary documents, and shogun family treasures, some of which are National Treasures and Important Cultural Properties. The exhibition also takes a closer look at the personalities and leadership of the 15 Ashikaga shoguns who shaped the Muromachi period. English audio guides and explanations available.
