Furogu Shrine’s Reitaisai, which takes place at the beginning of February, is known as one of the Chikugo region’s three main festivals (alongside the festivals at Kora Shrine and Suitengu Shrine in Kurume). Furogu is known affectionately as “Ofurosan” and welcomes over 150,000 guests during this exciting large-scale festival. The shioi-mairi and goshinko processions are some of the most eye-catching events. The yabusame (horseback archery) display also generates a great deal of interest. As many as about 300 stalls will line up the approach to the shrine, offering festival food such as dried persimmons and more.
