Samurai Kuroda – New Year Special Exhibition

START: Jan 7, 2018 END: Feb 12, 2018

Marvel at this collection of some forty items including samurai armor and swords from the Sengoku Period and the armor of Kanbei Kuroda, Fukuoka’s most legendary samurai. Although brightly colored and beautifully decorated, these armors and swords were used for battle. Some historians speculate that the helmets of Kuroda’s soldiers were so eye-catching that they were easily targeted in combat. The full battle gear of the Kuroda clan will also be on display, providing great insight into Fukuoka’s history from the Momoyama period to the Edo period. For an extra ¥200 visitors can also enjoy a closer look at the Heshikiri-Hasebe sword, which is regarded as a national treasure (available for viewing between Jan. 5 to Feb. 4).
