Admire the colorful, traditional Japanese umbrellas and bamboo lanterns adorning the streets along Buzen Kaido in Yamaga City for this annual festival. The lanterns are lit up from 17:30 to 19:00 and visitors can help with lighting them up – just approach a nearby lantern festival volunteer! Don’t forget to drop by the Yachiyoza Theater to watch a performance of the Yamaga lantern dance in which women dance with locally-made lanterns attached to their heads (20:30~21:40). Festival stalls and live performances, too.
