Hometown: Kolkata, India
In Japan: 4 years
Identity: Dancer / Unofficial Cultural Ambassador
As a member of an Indian family that values traditional music and dance, Nupur discovered the joy of dancing at a young age, and it remained her passion ever since. Growing up, she developed a fascination for Japanese culture and jumped at the chance four years ago to live in Shikoku. She now teaches English in Kitakyushu. Her students’ knowledge of India is often limited: many mistake her for a Native American or mispronounce Indian as ‘alien’! Recently, Nupur has become somewhat of a cultural ambassador for India; at the request of Kitakyushu’s International Center, she teaches Bengali and gives occasional cooking lessons. She also dreams of breaking into the modeling and acting business, which is her current goal. Her first love is still Indian dance though, so if you’re equally passionate about dance or want to learn more about Indian culture, contact Nupur at nupur256@yahoo.co.in
