A plethora of outdoor concerts will turn up the heat this summer – as if the mercury wasn’t high enough already! You don’t even have to go all the way to the Fuji Rock Festival. Catch these top events right here in Fukuoka.
ILLUSION.
Last year’s Illusion attracted 1,500 ravers and house/techno fans – double the number expected! This year, clubbers can look forward to a guest line-up including DJ Tokunaga of Ibiza nightclub fame, along with Co-Fusion, fronted by international DJ Heigo Tani. VJ5 team and giant video screens too. Party on the golden sands ’til dawn.
ISLA DE SALSA 2002
Fukuoka’s authentic annual Caribbean festival is being extended to two days this year. The schedule is similar for both days, with more local acts on the first day. Add to that the magic of Noko’s palm trees, beach, international food stalls, art displays, body and nail art booths, and a dance contest… You’ll forget you’re in Fukuoka!
Guest artists: 8/17 – Salsa Gum Tape & Kajiwara, Sabrosura del Conido (Osaka), Steven Damian Band (Tokyo/Venezuela), David Calzado Y Su Charanga Habanera (Cuba), plus local bands and dancers; 8/18 – basically as for previous day, with grand finale.
SUNSET LIVE 2002
Now in its 10th year, Sunset has grown so big it’s moved to a bigger venue! Palm trees line this beachside spot, which’ll be packed with art displays and food stalls. Local artists will headline the first day and some of Japan’s best new acts will wow the crowds on Saturday and Sunday. Camping is permitted, but remember to keep the peace and take your trash home with you. A highly recommended event!
