Sweet & Cool Traditional Treats
The summery treat of shaved ice sweetened with syrup has been enjoyed in Japan for nearly 1,000 years! Serving up the classic sweet in a fittingly old-fashioned setting is this charming tea room, near Kushida Shrine. Adventurous Japanophiles will drool over their green tea, dumpling and bean-topped Uji Zenzai (600yen; pictured). Alternatively, try the milky or syrup-topped kakigori (snow cones) – much lighter than ice cream, and just as tasty!
