Healthy All-You-Can-Eat

For many foreigners, maintaining a healthy diet in Japan is a challenge. Fruits and vegetables aren’t quite the same as back home, and neither are the prices! Eating can be good value, but it’s hard to find a full, healthy meal. Until now. Nonobudo has arrived to take over the sorely missed Sizzler’s role on the IMS Building’s 13th floor. The concept: offer a wide variety of locally grown and prepared healthy traditional Japanese foods at reasonable prices. Photos of farmers displayed above the foods they grew will reassure you of the safety of your organic veggies. Over 70 seasonal items are selected by an on-staff dietician for the buffet, which includes salads, organic vegetables, several varieties of rice and miso soup, baked entr仔s, curries, cereals, breads, pickles, juices, and more. 1,500yen might be more than you normally spend on lunch, but when you see the all-you-can-eat spread they have waiting for you, you’ll agree it’s a great deal. The mood in the evenings is a little more sophisticated, with dimmed lighting, a plate of sashimi served at your table, and roast beef added to the buffet. There’s a wide assortment of beverages as well, including half-a-dozen teas, juices, freshly ground and brewed coffee, wine from the house’s own German winery, and the indispensable selection of Japanese sake and shochu. The restaurant is an excellent value, tasty, and fun. Foreigners in need of home-style, healthy cooking and Japanese looking for old yet new are sure to appreciate Nonobudo’s unique charms.
