Shayne is an English teacher living and working in Fukuoka, but his passion is art. Despite studying film at university, Shayne has gravitated toward audio art since arriving in Japan. He felt the pull after watching a lot of live musicﾑmostly jazzﾑand then discovering Fukuokaﾕs underground music scene. He performs in a more traditional sense, providing accompanying sounds for Monster Movie, a jazz improv band, among others. But other nights, youﾕll find him in art galleries feeding extreme noise through filters and effects pedals, accompanied by anything from men playing bicycles to visual artists creating images on-the-fly. 一見そこら辺にいる普通の英語教師に見える、シェイン。ところが、その心の奥底に潜むアート魂にはアツいものがある。大学で映画を勉強したにも関わらず、来日してからはグイグイとオーディオアートの魅力に引き込まれていった。音楽ーことさらジャズに影響を受け、福岡のアンダーグラウンドミュージックシーンを開拓していくと、ついには、モンスター・ムービーという即興ジャズバンドで表現方法を見つける。…がしかし、シェインのクリエイティビティはまだまだ止まらない。アートギャラリーで、日常に溢れるありとあらゆる“ノイズ”を彼自身のフィルターを通してアートに変換していく、アーティストの顔も持ち合わせるのだ。博多リバレイン近くのアートスペース・テトラの創設メンバーでもある彼。ミュージシャン？アーティスト？彼っていったい何者？気になった人は、1/10、23に親不孝のブードゥーラウンジで行われる彼のライブに行ってみて。swb8@gol.com
