Aso City, Kumamoto Prefecture, is reportedly abandoning reconstruction efforts on Laputa no Michi (Laputa Road). Sometimes referred to as the Road to Heaven, the 5.8 km drive has been a popular sightseeing spot, known for its scenic and winding path, but was badly damaged by the 2016 Kumamoto earthquakes.
