Banks to Test Cashless Payment System

A number of regional banks will test a system in Kitakyushu beginning this September allowing customers to use a smartphone application to make payments using a QR code reader. Developers hope that the initiative will decrease the number of cash payments and reduce the amount of administrative work for bank clerks. Customers that have accounts with the Bank of Fukuoka, Mizuho Bank, Nishi-Nippon City Bank, and Kitakyushu Bank will be able to use the Purin (Pring) app at approximately 50 stores and commercial facilities around JR Kokura Station. Some taxis will accept payments using the app. It will also be possible for users to send money from one account to another via the new system. The trial will last until the end of December this year. Source: Sankei West, 8/20/2018
