Browsing Ants Found in Hakata Port

Browsing ants, native to Southern Europe, have been found at Hakata Port in September 2018. The Environment Ministry reported on Jan. 23 that it was the first such confirmation in the Kyushu area after the ants were found in other parts of Japan. The black-colored ant is about 3 mm in length and has strong reproductive abilities. Browsing ants are not poisonous, but are very aggressive. Source: Nikkei Shimbun, 1/23/2019
