Decrease in Organized Crime in Fukuoka

The Fukuoka Prefectural Police announced on January 21 that they counted 1,890 organized crime members and affiliates in the local area at the end of 2018. The number decreased by 150 across 12 months. The figure had gone down for 11 consecutive years since reaching a peak in 2007 when the police reported that 3,750 people were involved in crime syndicates based in Fukuoka. The Prefectural Police believe that the drop-off is tied to their increased efforts to crack down on gangs and combat organized crime. Source: Yomiuri Shimbun, 1/22/2019
