On Feb. 21 Fukuoka City announced plans to support the construction of a waste disposal facility in Yangon City using an ecology-conscious waste landfill method, “the Fukuoka Method.” The city will work on the project in collaboration with UN-Habitat (United Nations Human Settlements Programme) using ¥600 million of ODA. Construction will start in April on a land of approximately 60 hectares and the beginning of the operation is expected to be two years later. Fukuoka City established sistership with Yangon City in 2016 and has since been supporting the development of the city. Source: Yomiuri Shimbun, 2/21/2019
