On March 7, Fukuoka City began testing IoT technology in the management of a local nursery school. The city is working with the Kyushu Institute of Technology to pilot a scheme at Kirin Hoikuen (nursery) in Jonan-ku which will use sensors to look after the premises and watch over the children. The cutting-edge technology will ensure the safety of the youngsters and lighten the workload of teachers. The IoT LoRaWAN network was installed to collect data and save energy. Sensors will help monitor the temperature of the building, humidity levels, and concentration of carbon dioxide in the air. Devices will also be used to check on the children’s posture and breathing patterns while they nap. Staff will be notified of any abnormalities by an alarm. The success of the trial will be assessed at the end of March next year. Source: Nikkei Shimbun, 3/8/2018
