The Fukuoka Transportation Bureau will now issue number plates that include the letters from the Roman alphabet. Until now the top section of local plates have featured the Chinese characters for Fukuoka followed by a three digit number. In the future, a mixture of numbers and letters will appear after the name of the city. Yokohama and the Nerima ward in Tokyo began issuing license plates that make use of the roman alphabet this January. Other parts of Japan have since followed suit, but Fukuoka will be the first branch of the Kyushu Department of Transportation to implement this new system. Source: Net IB News, 8/22/2018
