Fukuoka Population on the Rise

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications’ census, which bases its figures on the Basic Resident Register, revealed that the population of Fukuoka City has risen by more than 14,000 people. This is the largest increase among all cities and wards throughout the country. Meanwhile, Kitakyushu City experienced a decrease of more than 5,600. This is the biggest drop nationwide, and is said to be due to the high number of deaths in the city, as well as the rise in younger generations moving away for their studies or work opportunities. The population of Kasuya-machi rose by 702 to 46,076 people, the largest increase of any town in Japan. Young families looking to commute to the city are said to be attracted by the area’s scenic location and multiple train stations. Source: NHK News Web, 7/11/2018
