Fukuoka Themed Restaurant to Open in Tokyo

Fukuoka Prefecture is planning to open a restaurant in central Tokyo this November in an effort to promote regional dishes, specialties, and traditional crafts. The restaurant will be called Fukuoka. However, the name will not feature the two Chinese characters normally used to write Fukuoka. Instead, the three characters that have been chosen carry the meaning “new winds blowing for the prosperity of Fukuoka.” The 76 seat restaurant will open in the Kojimachi neighborhood of Chiyoda-ku on November 21. Approximately 80% of the items on the menu will be made using ingredients sourced from Fukuoka Prefecture. Local ceramics, such as Koishiwara-yaki and Agano-yaki will be used for serving. The interior will be decorated with traditional Fukuoka crafts, including Hakata-ori textiles and Okawa woodwork. This fiscal year the prefecture has budgeted approximately ¥138 million for the project and expects to see annual takings reach ¥180 million. Source: NHK News Web, 7/25/2018
