Local professional basketball team Rizing Zephyr will be relegated from the B1 league due to shortage of funds. The CEO of the team, Yasunori Kanda, revealed at a press conference on Apr. 9 that the team’s relegation was mandated by the executive committee of Japan Professional Basketball League. The team planned for a ¥540 million budget for the current season, half of which was covered by revenues of advertisements and ticket sales. The team was dependent on the owner company for the remaining half, which it failed to pay. They will be able to play in the B2 league provided they secure a ¥180 million funding by the end of June, and the prospect for that is not yet clear. Source: Nikkan Sports, 4/9/2019
