Alfredo Despaigne smashed back-to-back homers, first in the fourth inning then in the bottom of the sixth against right-handed Michael Tonkin, as the SoftBank Hawks clobbered the Nippon Ham Fighters 5-2 last night to advance to the final stage of the Pacific League Climax Series. The Hawks will next play the PL champion Seibu Lions starting Wednesday. If they win that series then they will play against the top CL team in the Japan Series for the biggest prize in professional Japanese baseball. Tokyo’s Yomiuri Giants and the Hiroshima Carp start the final stage of the CL playoffs on Wednesday. Go Hawks! Go!
