Kyushu-Okinawa Bankruptcies Up

The Fukuoka branch of Tokyo Shoko Research has reported that the number of corporate bankruptcies with at least ¥10 million in liabilities was 637 in Kyushu-Okinawa area in 2018, an increase of 13.1% from 2017. Corporate bankruptcies were on a decline. This was the first increase in seven years. Meanwhile, the total amount of liabilities remained at approximately ¥100 billion, up only 3.5% from the previous year. Continued lack of human resources is considered as a major cause of bankruptcies of small and medium companies. Source: Nikkei Shimbun, 1/11/2019
