Kyushu’s Top Ranking Spots on Facebook

The Kyushu Tourism Promotion Organization has announced its ranking for Kyushu’s tourist attractions based on the numbers of ‘likes’ on their Facebook page. The top-ranked spot, “Men no Ishi” in Kumamoto Prefecture, is a tunnel made of huge rocks that looks like the silhouette of a cat. Yabakei is famous for the beauty of its autumn leaves, and other scenic spots and events follow in the ranking, therefore, “instagrammability” is seen as an important factor to gain high popularity. The organization provides Kyushu’s tourist information through its Facebook page from 2010 and the followers include both Japanese (55%) and international (Taiwan: 20%, Hong Kong: 12%) users.
