New Fukuoka Court Offices Open

The new Fukuoka court offices, which are now located in Ropponmatsu, Chuo-ku, opened for use on August 20. This marks the first time that a high, district, family, and summary court have all been based inside a single government facility. The previous offices were built within the grounds of the Fukuoka Castle ruins in 1968. Although numerous criminal cases took place at the facility, the ageing building has started to deteriorate and is not adequately equipped to deal with earthquakes. The new establishment is a 3-minute walk from Ropponmatsu Station (Fukuoka City Subway Nanakuma Line) and was constructed on a site that used to be home to one of Kyushu University’s campuses. The development cost in the region of ¥19.1 billion and has a total floor span of approximately 56,000 square meters. There is a total of 51 courtrooms on the premises.
