Kego Junior High School has decided to change its school uniform from the existing stand-up collar and sailor suit to a gender-neutral blazer. A review committee made up of faculty members, student council officials, and guardians decided to change to a new school uniform. The move came after students began expressing dissatisfaction about how uncomfortable the existing uniforms get during the summer months. Views and opinions from the transgender community were also taken into consideration during the review process. Starting from next spring, first year students will be free to choose whether to match their blazer with trousers or a skirt. The Fukuoka Board of Education will look at how rules and regulations concerning uniform impact sexual minorities in more detail. Source: Sankei Shimbun, 4/13/2018
