Nishitetsu and Toyota Launch Trial of Multi-modal Transport App ‘My Route’

Launched on Nov. 1 and ending on Mar. 31, “My Route” is a multi-modal mobility service for smartphones created collaboratively by Nishi-Nippon Railroad Co., Ltd. (Nishitetsu) and Toyota Motor Corporation (Toyota). The application sets a route for a shop, event or other chosen destination and is able to combine various modes of transport to create an efficient journey time. These include public transportation, taxis, rental cars, private vehicles, bicycles and walking. Within the app is an integrated platform which allows users to make payments and transport reservations in connection with their route, which includes searching the statuses of parking lots, reserving and paying for taxis, as well as being able to access the shared bicycle scheme Merchari. While Toyota will run the app and payment platform (providing information on Toyota rental cars in the process), Nishitetsu will provide up-to-date information on their trains and on shops and events, such as those in its Tenjin site. With the app Nishitetsu has launched an app-exclusive digital Fukuoka City one-day pass, which allows for the use of public transportation. Through these trials Nishitetsu and Toyota are hoping to test the viability of multi-modal transport services and identify areas of improvement within their own prototype. The app is available for download in both the App Store and Google Play here. Source: Toyota Global Newsroom, 10/31/2018
