In a press release on Jan. 30, Nishi-Nippon Railroad Co Ltd. announced the introduction of a smartphone payment system for their expressway bus route between Saga Airport and Fukuoka City beginning Feb. 2. This is the first introduction of such a system on a bus in the Kyushu area. The aim is to increase convenience for both foreign tourists and bus drivers. Passengers will be able to use Alipay and Wechat Pay to pay the fare at destinations such as Hakata Station and Canal City. Currently, about 80% of the users of the route are Chinese travelers arriving from Shanghai. Source: Nishitetsu, 1/30/2019
