Port of Hakata Amongst Japan’s Busiest During 2017

Initial figures suggest that the Port of Hakata welcomed more cruise ships (326) than anywhere else in Japan during 2017. This makes Hakata the busiest Japanese port in terms of its ability to attract cruise ships for the third consecutive year. The record high is expected to be maintained with the import of clothing and export of second hand cars to and from overseas. Fukuoka City Mayor Takashima stated that he expects to see the Port of Hakata play a big role in the success of Asia, a region that stimulates growth around the world. Fukuoka City is planning to further develop the facility by extending the port’s wharf. Renovations are due to be completed this summer. Source: TNC, 1/16/2018
