JR Kyushu has reported increased reservations for the Golden Week holidays in 2019, up 17.3% for shinkansen and 16.9% for the rapid trains from the previous year. According to the company’s announcement on Apr. 12, nearly half of the seats had been booked for Japan’s ten-day holidays from Apr. 27 to May 6, with the busiest days on Apr. 29 (outbound) and May 3 (inbound.) The company attributes the longer holidays as well as the increased popularity of the area due to a recent TV drama series as the main factors of pushing up the number of tourists. In addition, 50.3% of the Sanyo Shinkansen (depart/arrive at Hakata Sta.) seats and 72.4% of Hakata-Busan cruise (JR Kyushu Jet Ferry) tickets have also been booked as of Apr. 11.
