During this year’s Golden Week holidays, JR Kyushu saw over 670,000 passengers traveling on the Kyushu Shinkansen, marking a record high. The number increased on both Hakata-Kumamoto and Kumamoto-Kagoshima routes and increased by 20% compared to the previous year. A total of 1,093,000 people traveled via Sanyo Shinkansen in and out of the island of Kyushu through the Shin-Kanmon Tunnel. In addition to shinkansen lines, the number of passengers who used public transportation including airplanes to and from Fukuoka Airport and a high-speed ferry Beetle increased by 19.1% and 31.7% respectively.
