Space World Kitakyushu to Close at End of 2017

It has just been announced that Space World will close in December 2017, with financial difficulties cited as the main reason. The theme park opened in 1990, and was for many years one of the most popular theme parks in Kyushu. The park reached its peak in 1997, with 2.16 million visitors, but has recently seen its customer base decline due to increased competition. The closure follows recent staff redundancies and the controversy surrounding frozen fish in their ice skating rink in Dec. 2016. Source: NHK, Dec. 16, 2016
