The former symbol of Space World is due to be demolished. Developers had hoped to sell the full-scale replica space shuttle that stood at the entrance to the Kitakyushu-based theme park before its closure at the end of last year. A deadline for bids had been set at the end of June, however no buyer was found. Kitakyushu City has decided they not to take ownership of the 60-meter tall model due to financial concerns. The cost of repair work and maintenance had been estimated at ¥1 billion. The shuttle will be dismantled at a later date in the future. Source: NHK News Web Fukuoka, 8/31/2018
