Three Roadside Markets in Kyushu Added to the Nation’s Top List

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport, and Tourism has selected 15 michi-no-eki in Japan as “important roadside stations,” and among them were three spots selected from Kyushu. Being valued for their unique efforts such as providing foreigner-friendly tourism services, support for parents and children in the neighboring areas and promoting sporting activities amongst the locals, Michi-no-eki Kikusui (Nagomi Town, Kumamoto), Yufuin (Yufu City, Oita) and Amami Oshima Sumiyo (Amami City, Kagoshima) will receive subsidies to renovate facilities including resting spaces and toilets. It was the third selection following 2014 and 2015. Source: Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, 1/30/2019
