Toyota Kyushu to Produce Lexus ES

Toyota’s Kyushu-based factory will start producing Lexus ES vehicles. A commemorative ceremony was held at the Toyota Motor Kyushu Co., Ltd. Miyata Factory, Miyawaka City, in late October to celebrate the announcement. Approximately 300 people attended the event, including Toyota Motor Corporation Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer Osamu Nagata. The company is hoping to sell 15,000 units of the luxury sedan per month across approximately 90 countries. This range has traditionally been export-only, but will now be available on the Japanese market. Toyota had set a domestic sales target of 350 cars per month, but they have already received more than 3,000 orders. The factory in Kanda, Miyako District will manufacture the engines, while the branch in Kokura, Kitakyushu City will be in charge of the hybrid version. Source: Mainichi Shimbun, 11/7/2018
