Trial Announces AI Customer Tracking System

Fukuoka-based Trial Company Inc. announced on Apr. 15 the development of a new AI monitoring system that recognizes the behavior of customers in its stores. The camera identifies customers with characteristics such as age and gender and analyzes what they are shopping for. The results will be reflected on the advertisement appearing on the digital sign board nearby. It can also alert the shop clerks to refill the shelves when some items are running out. The smartphone-based camera is produced in China. After introducing 1,500 cameras to a renovated shop in Shingu Town in Fukuoka from Apr. 19, the company seeks to sell the camera internationally to other retailers. Source: Nikkei Shimbun, 4/16/2019
