Located on a back street in Hirao, Nakamuta is a cozy restaurant in a revamped old house where you can enjoy Japanese cuisine and sake. The menu: nothing but chef’s choice courses, with everything made from fresh seasonal ingredients. Watch from your counter seat as Taiji Nakamuta deftly slices up fresh, locally caught fish served with soy sauce handmade in Itoshima. The boiled dishes, made with a broth of kelp and bonito, will warm you to the core, and don’t forget to try the popular rice steamed in an earthenware pot. Sake fans will love the expansive sake menu.
