Bakery, sports bar, restaurant, cafe… It’s a lot of things, and it’s all very good and very German! After years of preparation, Adolph Sailer and Andreas Ibach have opened Japan’s only official historic Bayern sanctioned space. Open from seven in the morning with freshly baked German breads, cakes and European coffees, it just gets better at lunch, with a 40-item menu consisting mostly of South-German/Austrian foods. Forty varieties of German bottled beer and three on tap are served in unique glasses with coasters. Large screen TV’s display all kinds of international sports, not just soccer, so you do not have to be a soccer fan to enjoy the food and drinks at Bayern Fukuoka.

The cool autumn morning air felt even crisper as we rumbled down the highway on our way to Minami-aso to attend the inaugural Kyushu Moto Guzzi Rally. Once a speed-record holder and credited with many ground-breaking engineering innovations, the Guzzi marque holds a special place within the world of motorbikes. From as far away as Yamaguchi, nearly forty Guzzi showed up. See their unique forms and colors online here: http://tinyurl.com/mg-kyushu

Congratulations to Gun-san on the opening of “Raan Gan Een,” his new Thai restaurant in Daimyo. As the the only Thai-owned Thai restaurant in Fukuoka, it promises to be very authentic, including small touches like a Thai Buddhist altar and a portrait of the King hanging on the wall. Pictured here, Gun-san is flanked by his Japanese wife and cook. Open every day except Sunday.
