Why Gossip? “Because there’s always something to talk about here!” says Italian-native barman Claudio. A combination of Euro-stylish club and gig space, Gossip has a packed schedule of events: local and national Hip-Hop acts draw a strong regular gigging crowd on the weekends, and weeknight Trance events have attracted DJs from Tokyo and overseas, including recently the UK’s Jim Rivers and Etienne. Regular nights start out chilled, with a casual and friendly dancefloor: try Claudio’s Italian-style cocktails (¥500 ~ 800) or grab the VIP area for prime party-people-watching (order a bottle or make a reservation by phone). The club layout changes a lot between events: for big acts the dancefloor becomes the crowd area with performers or dancers onstage, but with two large bars and a spacious floorplan it’s usually still possible to get a seat if you’re just there to be seen. Barman (and occasional MC) Major keeps up an entertaining cocktail show, and with so much space and a formidable sound system you only need to sweat it with the crowd if you want to, in order to hear some of the best local sound.
